Database
ICIMOD has granted support to ESON for the Development of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
Network (MAPs-Net) Nepal. The project was run for about a year and focused mainly on the e-database
preparation, which is now available for researchers and different stakeholders. The main output of the
work was the assemblage of the scattered data related to Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Nepal and
make an easy access mechanism of gathered data for all.
The first and second phase of MAPs-Net project compiled detailed information on 70 species of
medicinal plants, which were selected on the basis of high use value, high trade value, commercially
threatened and mostly cited species in MAP literatures. Moreover, a basic information on over 1700
species of medicinal and aromatic plants are also tried to incorporate in the database. The necessary
information of these selected plants is being collected from different sources and is available in the web
version.
